About the Program:

Exchange - NSE

What is NSE?

The National Student Exchange (NSE) provides an opportunity for students from NDSU to broaden their social and educational perspectives and can further their education while studying on another campus. You can study for a single semester or academic year at one of 160 NSE participating colleges and universities. NSE allows you to take new courses, see new places, make new friends, and enroll in academic options that may not be available at NDSU.

Why NSE?

In many areas of study, remaining in the U.S. or Canada makes more sense due to academic compatibility as well as for affordability. Most students will move elsewhere after they graduate to find employment or attend graduate school. NSE provides an opportunity for students to explore the feasibility of living in an area of interest for future study or work.

The changing diversity in culture and ethnicity across the United States, its territories, and Canada presents numerous challenges and opportunities for tomorrow's citizens and leaders. Through your exchange, you will have an opportunity to gain insight into the historical and cultural makeup of different regions, improve your communications skills with individuals from different backgrounds, and prepare yourself to live and work in a culturally diverse society.

Financial Information

NDSU operates on Exchange (Home Payment / Plan B) and Direct (Host Payment / Plan A).
  • Exchange (Home Payment / Plan B): For home payment schools, students will pay NDSU tuition and fees. Extra costs, such as individual course fees, housing, and meals, are collected by the host campus. Living expenses are the responsibility of the participant. Some campuses require participants to live in on-campus housing; others do not require it.
  • Direct (Host Payment / Plan A): For host payment schools, students will have NDSU tuition waived as you will be paying the host university's tuition. A small amount of NDSU fees will be charged for registration purposes. Extra costs, such as individual course fees, housing, and meals, are collected by the host campus. Living expenses are the responsibility of the participant. Some campuses require participants to live in on-campus housing; others do not require it.
Financial aid and scholarships can be applied toward the costs for this program for eligible students. To meet with a financial aid advisor regarding your aid package and/or alternative loans, please start an application first. The act of starting an application will allow financial aid to know which program you are interested in attending and will attach a budget to your file. Within the online application you'll find instructions on how to make an appointment with the financial aid advisor.
